Frequently asked questions
How do I prepare for a colonic?
- Before your session, it's best to avoid eating for approximately 3 hours prior to your treatment, to give your digestive system a break and prevent any discomfort.
- Minimise drinking any fluids, even water, for 1 to 2 hours before your session to avoid your bladder becoming full during the session. Carbonated drinks might lead to gas and discomfort during your session, so it's a good idea to steer clear of them.
Post colonic - How will I feel? What is the after care?

Do colonics hurt?
Are colonics dangerous?
Colonics are safe and here at Gold Coast Gravity Colonics your safety and well being is our number one priority. If you feel you need to halt the session at any point we welcome you to do so.
Are laxatives as effective as colonics?
No, laxatives are useful for short-term relief but can irritate the bowel and are not ideal for long-term or deep detox purposes. Laxatives will not address other bowel concerns such as IBS, bloating, excess gas, candida, parasites etc and may even exacerbate these conditions. Withdrawal of laxatives will only make constipation worse.
If I take medications will I be able to get a colonic?
Colonics typically do not interfere with any medication including antibiotics.
Can I have a colonic while on my period?
Yes absolutely, if you tend to get bloated at this time the colonic may ease the that feeling
How many sessions should I have?
The number of colon hydrotherapy sessions you should have depends on your individual goals, health history, and how your body responds. When beginning colon hydrotherapy a series of close together sessions is recommended. The colon is 5ft long and 1ft can accumulate 5 kilos of waste! Post colonic your therapist will discuss the best treatment options suited for you moving forward.

I have daily bowl movements. Do I still need to get colonics?
Having regular bowel movements is a great sign of digestive health, but that doesn't always mean the colon is completely free of old, impacted waste (which can cling to the walls of the colon), toxins or mucous build up, gas or bloating that might not be fully relieved through regular elimination. Our environment exposes us to significant levels of toxicity, from household chemicals to the food we consume, which can significantly impact our digestion, hormones, as well as our mental and physical well-being. Daily elimination is essential, but a deeper cleanse every so often can enhance overall wellness.
Who should not get a colonic?
Colonics are not suitable for anyone who has recently had abdominal or pelvic surgery. We advise you to wait 4-6 months and seek approval from your doctor or surgeon before booking an appointment.
